This painting is a portrait of Hajji Mirza Aghasi seated in a chair, covered by a large cream cloak. He is placed before a cloudy sky and dark landscape. Hajji Mirza Aghasi is a controversial figure in Iranian history. He served as Prime Minister to Muhammad Shah from 1835-48. Despite civil unrest and threats of domination, Hajji Mirza Aghasi maintained his position until the end of Muhammad Shah's reign. His placement before a cloudy sky and dark landscape is typical of the mid-19th century.
